Monday 30th June – Optionals Day

I cannot already believe it is the end of June and we are in the second week of our Summer camp Session 2, it is flying by..

Today was a different day for all the students as it optional day, which is one day in the session where campers explore new interests. It offers a unique opportunity to choose how to spend the day—whether through varying workshops. Optional days encourage creativity, relaxation, and personal growth.

The first optional course is photography where the students learn how to capture the world through a lens. They learn about camera settings, lighting, composition, and editing techniques. It’s a great way to express creativity while developing a keen eye for detail and storytelling through images.

The second optional course is Leadership which helps students build confidence, communication skills, and the ability to work well in teams. Through group discussions, activities, and real-life scenarios, students learn how to guide others, make decisions, and become positive role models.

Robotics is the third option where students explore technology and engineering by building and programming robots. This hands-on course enhances problem-solving and critical thinking skills while offering a fun and engaging introduction to coding and mechanics.

Mountain fitness and first aid is the fourth option and favoured more by our older students of the Pioneers. A chance for them to get out into the mountains for a bit of hiking and breathtaking views, follwoed by some very important first aid tips and also some stretching and yoga.

Our penultamate course is cooking, art and theatre combines just that, all three. In cooking the campers learn essential kitchen skills, from measuring ingredients to preparing complete meals. They learn about nutrition, food safety, and international cuisines, all while enjoying the rewarding experience of creating something delicious from scratch. For both the art and theatre, it offers students a creative outlet for self-expression. In art, they explore drawing, painting, and other media. In theatre, they engage in acting, improvisation, and stagecraft. Both foster imagination, confidence, and collaboration.

Etiquette class is our final optional course of the day and focuses on social manners, communication skills, and respectful behavior in different settings. Students learn about table manners, polite conversation, and professional conduct, which can boost their confidence in social and formal situations.

All mixed with different age groups, all the campers had a great day in their optional courses!!

For the evening the Discoveries did a bin bag fashion show, dressing up and creating their own super heros with different powers. For Explorers they ventured to the local mini golf course to try their hand at putting in the 21 hole course, the Adventurers had a challenging quiz night and for Pioneers it was time for them to show their talents in the audition night ready for the live performances on prize giving night.

Yet another fun filled day for all the campers!
