Ski & Snowboard
Skiing & Snowboarding And Other Core Activities
From total beginners, some of whom have never seen snow, to young athletes training as part of their school ski or snowboard team, Les Elfes offers a lively and enthusiastic approach. We aim to facilitate an environment for students to develop their skills while enjoying their time on the mountain, making new friends and sharing valuable experiences with their peers.
According to the chosen session, campers will have the opportunity to ski in Verbier or in Zermatt.
Session 1
During the first spring session, campers will have the chance to ski in both Zermatt and Verbier completing a 2 weeks ski/snowboard camp.
Session 2 & 3
In one of the two weeks, campers will learn or improve skiing or snowboarding at the foot of the majestic Matterhorn, with everlasting snow at an altitude between 2.900 and 3.900 meters.
Level of Progression
Whether a beginner or an advanced skier, the student's progress in the sport from the level they are at. Our ski guides are qualified to take care of all ability levels, from complete beginners to advanced skiers. During this week, we ensure very strong progress. There are 8 levels to be accomplished, and a participant can reach up to level 4 in the first week of skiing.
Award System
To maintain our position as a leading provider for Outdoor and Adventurous Activities for clients, Les Elfes have introduced an award system for the ‘core’ outdoor activities throughout all of our programmes.
This scheme provides a framework with clear assessment criteria which allows campers to develop their personal and leadership skills in activities including, rock climbing, mountain biking, orienteering, skiing, bushcraft, first aid, paddle sports, snowboarding and many more.
The award scheme provides a clear and logical progression throughout the age groups where returning students have the opportunity to develop from a beginner to a leader and for us to reward different levels of personal achievement so that campers have certificates they can be proud of and which can form part of a record of their personal achievements.
The scheme is designed to allow campers to develop their experiences in outdoor activities, to progress beyond the fundamental personal skills and introduce aspects of leadership and Independent and safe practices in outdoor and adventurous activities.
The sessions in these ‘core’ activities have been designed to be flexible in their content and structure to suit the session to the requirements of each individual.
Each camper will have the opportunity to be involved in the award scheme if they choose to, allowing them to develop their existing skills and challenge themselves to achieve beyond their current level.

Courses & Clubs
Dynamic and interactive workshops & activities enable our students to develop a toolbox of teamwork skills that will help them to build mature lasting relationships with friends and colleagues, create imaginative and complex solutions to problems and focus on their Emotional Intelligence using theories and practices from a range of academic scholars in the field of experiential learning.
During Spring we offer many age-specific courses and clubs, running through our 2-week program. The underlying theme of team spirit and teamwork is further strengthened through the after-dinner activities at the campus.
The Personal Development Program aims to equip our campers to develop a deeper understanding of themselves and to apply that knowledge when leading others and preparing for the world of work. Managing their expectations, motivations and reflection processes can enable students to further understand the concept of success. It is one thing to learn how to become an organised, calm or articulate individual, but understanding the fundamental concepts affecting your experience will allow you to lead others to achieve more.
Les Elfes Spring Camp is focused on providing a holistic learning experience to our campers through its Out-Door and Personality Development Programs during the two weeks.

One of the most important skills that we can cultivate in our children is the capacity to make the right choices in life. And this is a skill that can be introduced and enhanced very early in life. This program is aimed at helping young adults understand themselves better so that they can plan for their future careers. Career choices are not just based on Academic performance but interests, aptitude, and personality. This 6-session program will handhold them through taking a pause to know themselves, prioritize their goals and perform with the help of cultivating the right habits.

The Voice_13 years+
Writing is often seen as a solitary art; however, this program encourages collaborative spaces. The Workshop also opens the participants to the vistas of the true spirit of creativity. As a finale, participants collaborate and produce a session journal with interviews & witty articles about coparticipants. This Journal is then presented to the whole camp on the day of the Talent show.

Equipment
Having the proper ski equipment is essential for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. We provide all ski & sports equipment and ski clothing rental so you don’t need to worry about that.
Here’s the information on ski and snowboard equipment needed for a day on the slopes which we facilitate in hiring and includes the suggested clothing list.
Clothing
Jacket: a good ski jacket must keep warm and dry on the slopes. It must be at once weatherproof, breathable, durable and comfortable.
Pants: Chances are, they are going to be worn sledding, tubing, building snow forts and playing in the snow. Because of that, kids’ ski pants need to be warm and weatherproof enough outlast both a lengthy ski day and a lengthy snow day.
Ski
Choosing the right skis depends on a number of factors, such as age/gender and skiing ability. We fit the participants keeping all factors in mind.
Ski Boots
Having a pair of ski boots that fits and makes feel comfortable is essential. Ski boots transfer the movement, the “instructions” to the skis and are very important for safe and enjoyable skiing.
Ski boots are the most important part of the skiing equipment. Aside from the fact that your child definitely will not enjoy his/her time on the slopes if the feet hurt or are cold, it is important to understand that boots are the key of the skiing performance.
Poles
In downhill skiing, ski poles are important. In order to be effective, ski poles need to lightweight and flexible, yet strong and sturdy as well. They also need to be sized correctly.
Snowboard
In general, an all-mountain snowboard is the best bet for beginners, rather than a specialty board, which is harder to turn and balance on. Also, the longer a board is, the more difficult it will be to control. Choose a board that is the right length you and your snowboarding ability.
Snowboard Boots
As the connecting point to the snowboard, boots are a vital piece of equipment. For most beginner snowboarders, soft snowboard boots are easier to control than hard boots. Boots have to be laced up tight to give the feet and ankles the support they need.
Helmet
Compulsory. As is the case with many sports, a helmet is the most important piece of equipment when it comes to preventing life-threatening injuries. Our campers must wear one any time they go on the slopes. We will make sure to provide a helmet that fits properly and keep the chin strap fastened to keep it securely in place.
Goggles and sunglasses
The sun’s rays are considerably stronger at high altitudes than they are at sea level, and when they bounce off the gleaming white snow, they can be a serious threat to your eyes. There’s no question that good ski goggles should be an essential on everybody’s skiing checklist, especially in the cold and high wind of mid-winter. Save those cool sunglasses for a little later in the season, and make sure your goggles and lenses are clean and clear.
Gloves or mittens
Many ski or snowboard gloves include pockets for hand warmers to keep fingers nice and toasty.
Wrist guards
Be sure to wear rigid wrist guards designed for snowboarding to protect yourself when you fall.
Staff & Safety

STAFF & SAFETY
At Les Elfes we have a huge responsibility for the safety of the students in all of the activities.
Safety is our highest priority. All of our staff must have a valid First Aid Certificate and a current Criminal Records Check before beginning their training at Les Elfes.
Unlike many similar camps over half of our staff are employed for the full year to ensure that the standard of activities we offer is consistently high at all campuses.
We also find that maintaining a core team of staff who work each year with the same groups enables us to build a repertoire with schools and with their students to provide better a better service and a better experience.
STAFF
Organisation: Each Camp is supervised by a Resort Manager, an Activities Manager and a Head Organizer. Les Elfes runs the camps with all appropriate staff, including monitors, organizers, kitchen staff, secretaries, drivers, cleaning staff etc.
Monitors: The organizer to student ratio is 1:5, however including all Les Elfes staff the ratio falls to 1:2.
All our monitors have been carefully selected in accordance with Les Elfes criteria for skills and experience in working with children. On top of this, Les Elfes uses sports experts for some activities.

STAFF SUPERVISION
Our Activity Managers supervise the work of our monitors and instructors all day long. In the winter, all our ski and snowboard instructors are accredited by the official Swiss Ski School, and in the summer each instructor is specialized in the different sports offered at Les Elfes.
KIDS SUPERVISION
All our Spring camps, Summer Camps, Winter Camps, have a nurse and a 24 hour reception and night guard, which together with our monitors work, allows us to offer a 24 hours supervision of the children. video & photos here
SAFETY
TRAINING WEEKS
All our summer and winter staff monitors, instructors, core staff and managers undertake a two-week training course before the start of each season combining one week of technical training and one week to learn and become acquainted with the Philosophy of Les Elfes.
Our training for each season includes a First Aid refresher course, Lifeguard training, Fire Safety, Child Protection awareness and Training in our SOPs and EAPs.
In the Winter all of our ski and snowboard instructors hold relevant ski and snowboard teaching qualifications and are accredited by the Official Swiss Ski School after a week of training and assessment with one of their trainers.
Our summer training includes and intensive training in our core activities including: orienteering and safety in the mountains, rock climbing, mountain biking and paddles sports.
We also hire specific staff with teaching and leading qualifications in these areas to ensure the students not only get the best out of their activities and learn from the Staff, but are safe throughout.
DAILY MEASURES
Throughout the year, wether it is skiing or snowboarding in Winter or Mountain Biking and Rock Climbing in Summer, the students take part in what we call activities containing certain risk elements. We therefore have strict procedures in place to ensure that during these activities, the students are exposed to as little risk as possible. To ensure this, we make sure our staff are fully qualified and well trained according to the time of year, and whatever time of year the day has to begin with a meeting identifying these risks. In the Winter there are many things to consider when looking at thse points, here is an idea of the safety measure taken:
07h45 WEATHER CHECK AND NURSE REPORT Groups Leave for the Mountain with Instructors, supervised by the Activity Manager and Head of Snowsports.
08h00 INSTRUCTOR MEETING Activity or Resort Manager delivers all critical information to the instructors for the day, discussing the weather, the condition of pistes, suitable slopes for the groups according to their level. The location for lunches and transport times.
09h00 GROUPS LEAVE Groups Leave for the Mountain with Instructors, supervised by the Activity Manager and Head of Snowsports.
12h00 LUNCH, CHECK OF GROUPS BY HEAD OF SNOWSPORTS The Head of Snowsports will check and see how the groups are doing throughout the day, and if any changes or issues, to act accordingly.
16h15 INSTRUCTORS MEETING & NURSE INFO A debrief will take place with the Activity Manager and Head of Snowsports, any changes or issues of the day, will be noted and discussed where needed. Should the Nurse need to look after any students, the information is passed on accordingly.
We are fully aware of the enormous responsibility of taking care of students and are completely focused on their well being. That being said, in case of illness or accident, we are only minutes away from world class professional help.
Given all the factors to consider when choosing a program, parents should look at the security of the Summer Camp. There are several things that must be considered: Location, facilities, staff, medical support and activities are points to consider as safe.
IN CASE OF EMERGENCY
Risk assessments are designed for each activity and are signed by all our monitors and head instructors during daily morning briefings and daily evening debriefings.
We have 3 up-to-date medical clinics in Verbier, and both campuses have access to a regional hospital and two University hospitals only 40 minutes and 75 minutes away respectively, or just 10 minutes by helicopter.
